Slacker Uprising

A message from Mike Moore:

During the 2004 presidential election and after Fahrenheit 9/11 came out, I went on a 62-city tour of battleground states in the month leading up to the election. In city after city, we had basketball arenas and concert halls full of slackers who were registering and pledging to vote for the first time in their lives. On tour, we were joined by musicians, comedians, former Bush administration diplomats, military families and Iraq war veterans. We were met by Bush supporters, protesters, and rich Republicans trying to pay off schools and college student to disinvite me to speak.

Our mission was to deliver the highest youth turnout in history and get W out of the White House. We were successful with the first part, but not the second. And that’s why were here. Four years later, the only way we will win this election is if we get the highest turnout ever of voters 18-29. There’s no way around it. It’s up to America’s youth.

This brings me to what I wanted to talk about tonight. At midnight tonight (about an hour) the first feature-length film ever to debut online for free online (and legally!). My new film “Slacker Uprising,” is a look back at our Slacker Uprising Tour and a look ahead to what we need to do to win this election. And I’m giving to you guys for free online so that you can use this film to rally voters, raise money, hold house parties, register friends and neighbors to vote, and do whatever you want with it. I’m giving this film to the Daily Kos community and like-minded people who will take this film and run.

You have my permission to download it, burn it, screen it, hold house parties and fundraisers around it. It’s your movie. It’s free. Take it and run. Getting slackers off the couch and into the voting booth is our only chance…

McCains Don't Pay Home Taxes For 4 Years

Rich elitists don't have to pay taxes.
McCains Owed 4 Years of Taxes on Home
According to HuffPo and via ThinkProgress:

The article reports that the McCains had been delinquent in paying
taxes until Newsweek inquired about the matter. The McCains then paid off
$6,744.42 in back taxes, but still owe more. Newsweek writes:

When you’re poor, it can be hard to pay the bills. When you’re rich, it’s
hard to keep track of all the bills that need paying. It’s a lesson Cindy McCain
learned the hard way when NEWSWEEK raised questions about an overdue
property-tax bill on a La Jolla, Calif., property owned by a trust that she
oversees. […]

County officials say the trust still owes an additional $1,742 for
this year, an amount that is overdue and will go into default July 1.

Told of the outstanding $1,742, the aide said: “The trust has paid all bills
shown owing as of today and will pay all other bills
due.”

That settles that.

John McCain is
the epitome of a

modern day "GOP fiscal conservative."

Trust fund babies that can't balance their own checkbooks,
nevermind the budget of a country.

Any bets on whether McCains used the unpaid home taxes as writeoffs against their income? Both John and Cindy need to open up all of their books for public scrutiny.

McCain Breaking Campaign Promises Already

The Real McCain is already breaking campaign promises:

As recently as this morning, McCain again told reporters that he planned on returning to the Senate for this evening’s vote on the economic stimulus, stating that Congress needed to quickly pass legislation.

The measure, blocked by conservatives, fell just one vote short of the 60 needed to end debate. At the “last minute,” McCain decided to skip the vote, even though his plane landed in DC in time. McCain claimed that he was “too busy“:

“I haven’t had a chance to talk about it at all, have not had the opportunity to, even,” McCain said. “We’ve just been too busy, focused on other stuff. I don’t know if I’m doing that. We’ve got a couple of meetings scheduled.”

Both Sens. Barack Obama (D-IL) and Hillary Clinton (D-NY) were able to return to the Senate and vote on the bill.

The reason for breaking this promise and allowing his GOP to filibuster the stimulus package? McCain was afraid to offend the craziest and most wingnutty wackos in his party:
Voting “no” with Republican leaders would have offended millions of Social Security recipients and the disabled veterans not scheduled to receive rebates. Voting “yes,” on the other hand, risked alienating Bush, GOP leaders and conservatives already suspicious of McCain’s political leanings. McCain was speaking Thursday before a meeting of the Conservative Political Action Conference, a group that booed him last year in absentia.
If he can't stand up to the Republican terrorists in his own GOP's base, you can be certain that even the mention of the words "al Qaeda" will make him wet his pants. Those words seem to have that effect on a lot of conservatives these days, so no surprise about that one... Never mind that he turned his back on the elderly and disabled veterans because he is a scared little old man.

Disgraced Richard Curtis Looking for PAGES?

Via Big Head DC:
Radar reports:

State Rep. Richard Curtis is looking for legislative pages between the ages of 14 and 16 to help around the office. In addition to permission from your parents and school, you are strongly encouraged to not read this spectacular new police report (ed. note - PDF via Slog lotsa info there - CM1) involving Rep. Curtis, a boy band-looking gay dude known as “Stallion” (”Pony Boy” was taken), and an extortion scheme centering on some cringe-inducing, graphically described man-love between the old dude and his young pet.

Pay no attention to rumors about Curtis wearing red stockings and black sequined lingerie top while getting a hairy-lipped hummer from some guy in the movie stall of a Seattle-area sex shop. Just take comfort in Curtis’s claims that “I have not had sex with a guy.”

Radar Online even managed to grab a screenshot of the job posting while (I presume?) simultaneously being shocked and laughing their asses off. You just can't make shit like this up.

Doesn't matter much anymore, except for the completely tattered reputation of the GOP, because he is resigning:
Rep. Richard Curtis, 48, said he was resigning immediately to spare his wife and children more public embarrassment. In a written statement, Curtis said, "Events that have recently come to light have hurt a lot of people. I sincerely apologize for any pain my actions may have caused."
I guess the GOP figured if he liked Stallion so much they better put him out to pasture... Either that or his wife pulled a bitter-Vitter-Bobbitt maneuver and gelded Dick on the spot:
In 2000, Vitter was included in a Newhouse News Service story about the strain of congressional careers on families.

His wife, Wendy, was asked by the Newhouse reporter: If her husband were as unfaithful as Livingston or former President Bill Clinton, would she be as forgiving as Hillary Rodham Clinton?

“I’m a lot more like Lorena Bobbitt than Hillary,” Wendy Vitter told Newhouse News. “If he does something like that, I’m walking away with one thing, and it’s not alimony, trust me.”

“I think fear is a very good motivating factor in a marriage,” she added. “Don’t put fear down.

TPM Muckraker
We will be watching to see if Curtis has a peculiar gate when he runs from the press in the future.

Bushy Cover Up of Conspiracy and Treason

bush pardons a traitor that is trying to cover up a conspiracy to commit treason, and you still don't think these actions are necessary?

You are lying to yourselves if you think that anything less will stop these traitorous criminals in the White House.
